Fresh out of graduate school at the ripe old age of 24, with a counseling degree in hand and not a clue what I was doing, I lived next to a mountain. I had the rare opportunity of time and motivation to hike that mountain, the same trail, 2-3 times a week for a full year. I hiked through hot humid summer, the slow turn into fall colors, a mild enough winter to keep me hiking, into a technicolor spring.
I honestly can’t say that I had any deep thoughts or metaphors about life or the therapy process back then. But when it came time, many years later (thank goodness!) to start my own therapy practice with more experience under my belt, my mind kept coming back to that trail. And the Redbuds. The first sign of spring. A new beginning. An opportunity to do things differently this year. My hope is that Redbud Mental Wellness is a place for a fresh start and offers a path to walk towards growth.
